If your Arctis Nova 7P or Nova 7P Gen 2 dongle isn't detected when Windows starts, but begins working as soon as you unplug and reconnect it, the USB receiver may not be initializing correctly during startup.
Let's get it loading into the match on the first try. 🎮
1. Check the USB connection
- Plug the wireless dongle directly into your PC.
- Temporarily avoid USB hubs or docks.
- Try another USB port.
- If you're using the USB adapter cable, reconnect both ends.
- If available, test a different USB-A or USB-C port.
2. Prevent Windows from powering down USB ports
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Right-click a USB Root Hub or Generic USB Hub and select Properties.
- Open the Power Management tab.
- Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
- Click OK.
Repeat for the other USB hubs where the Power Management tab is available.
3. Disable USB Selective Suspend
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Power Options.
- Click Change plan settings next to your active power plan.
- Select Change advanced power settings.
- Expand USB settings → USB selective suspend setting.
- Set the option to Disabled.
- Click Apply → OK.
4. Disable Fast Startup
- Go to Control Panel → Power Options.
- Select Choose what the power buttons do.
- Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
- Uncheck Turn on fast startup.
- Save your changes.
If Fast Startup isn't shown, you can skip this step.
5. Fully shut down the PC
After changing the USB settings:
- Shut the PC down completely.
- Keep the Nova 7P wireless dongle plugged in.
- Turn the PC back on.
- Check whether the dongle is detected automatically.
6. Check SteelSeries GG
Open SteelSeries GG → Engine and check whether your Nova 7P appears.
If a firmware update is available, complete the update and test the headset again after another shutdown.
Dongle detected, but the headset isn't connected?
If Windows can see the dongle, but your headset doesn't connect to it, move on to our How to reconnect Nova 7 / Nova 7 Gen 2 with the Dongle guide.
The reconnect steps also apply to the Nova 7P and Nova 7P Gen 2.
Still not detected?
Test the dongle on another PC.
If it starts normally on the second system, the issue is likely related to the USB or power configuration of the original PC. If the same behavior occurs on multiple computers, please contact our Support team for further assistance.
