Although it may appear that the controller is not extending far enough to fit a phone, it requires a little extra pulling force before you feel the spring as you extend it.
It should separate and have a full opening size of about 6 3/4 inches or 171.45 millimeters.

Please keep in mind that it does not stay open when fully expended without a device inside as the spring will decompress.
It may also be that you are fully extended but your phone is not compatible with the Nimbus Cloud.
