Yes. The microphone will still pick up sound while retracted.
However, for the best voice quality, you should extend and properly position the microphone.
Why mic position matters
The Nova 1 and Nova 3 use a directional (uni-directional) microphone.
This means:
It is designed to capture sound from one direction
It works best when positioned close to your mouth
Sound quality may drop if it is too far away or facing the wrong direction
When fully retracted:
Your voice may sound quieter
Background noise may be more noticeable
Clarity may decrease
How to position the microphone correctly
Step 1
Fully extend the retractable microphone.
Step 2
Position it near the corner of your mouth.
Step 3
Make sure the flat side of the microphone is facing your mouth.
Step 4
Keep the microphone about 1–2 fingers away from your mouth.
You should now have a clearer and louder voice pickup.

If your mic sounds quiet
Confirm it is fully extended.
Check that the flat side is facing your mouth.
Verify the mic is selected as the input device in your system settings.
Increase the microphone input level in the system or game settings if needed.
Important
Retracting the microphone does not mute it.
To mute the microphone, use the physical mute button on the headset.
