Jumping from PS4 to PS5 and wondering why your headset suddenly sounds “off”?
That’s not your ears playing tricks on you – it’s the PS5’s built‑in 3D Audio. 🧠🎧
What 3D Audio does
On PS5, 3D Audio is enabled by default for headsets.
It creates a virtual surround sound effect to help you better locate enemies, footsteps, and explosions in 3D space. 🎯💥
The trade‑off: it also changes (colors) the sound compared to the clean stereo signal you’re used to on PS4.
So if your games sound:
- 🔊 Wider or more “holographic”
- 🎚️ A bit different in bass/treble balance
- 🎧 Less like your usual PC/PS4 sound
…that’s likely 3D Audio at work, not your headset.
🛠️ How to turn off 3D Audio on PS5
If you prefer the classic, “pure” sound (or want your headset to sound just like it does on PS4/PC), you can disable 3D Audio:
- Go to Settings on your PS5.
- Select Sound.
- Choose Audio Output.
- Toggle Enable 3D Audio off.
Once 3D Audio is disabled, your headset will get a standard stereo signal again, much closer to what you hear on PS4.
